Forced retirement risk factor for physical and mental health problems
We’ve all heard stories of people retiring and then dying within months, unable to enjoy the fruits of their labor. It used to be that people didn’t live long beyond retirement because of shorter life spans, a feeling that they don’t belong anywhere any longer, or even because working kept people busy and not with enough time to notice or pay attention to possible illnesses.
But, things change. Life expectancy is longer, people are generally healthier, and more people are able to retire when they want, rather than when they have to. Buy choosing when to retire, you can plan and enjoy your retirement.
Unfortunately though, sometimes retirement is still forced and people who aren’t ready to retire are being forced out of the work force. These are the people who are at risk of becoming ill, according to researchers in Germany. You can read about it in this article Involuntary retirement can be a health hazard.
